JAKARTA – A wave of criticism and disappointment has emergency among students of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Management Department at Tarumanagara University. Several students have voiced serious concerns regarding a lecturer identified as Miharni Tjokrosaputro, who is alleged to have acted unprofessionally in carrying out academic activities on campus.
The complaints were conveyed by students on Sunday (May 11, 2026). In their statements, students claimed they felt academically disadvantaged due to what they described as a teaching pattern that created excessive pressure, particularly for working-class students enrolled in evening or employee classes.
According to the students, the classroom environment was neither conducive nor healthy for academic discussion. They alleged that they were often not given adequate opportunities to express opinions or engage in open dialogue during lectures.
“Students seem to have no room to speak. Whenever someone tries to express an opinion, they are immediately interrupted,” said one student.
Students further alleged that the lecturer frequently diverted lecture materials toward personal opinions deemed irrelevant to the subject matter being taught. They argued that such conditions rendered the learning process ineffective and inconsistent with proper academic standards.
Frustration reportedly escalated after several students claimed they received poor grades despite believing they had completed examinations and assignments correctly. They questioned the transparency and clarity of the grading system applied in the course.
“Many students feel they answered correctly, yet still received failing grades. We believe our efforts are not being appreciated,” another student stated.
Beyond grading concerns, students also criticized what they described as a lack of transparency in assignment distribution and academic instructions. They claimed that directions were often relayed only through class representatives without clear explanations being delivered directly to all students.
One class was also reportedly subjected to point deductions under circumstances students considered unclear and unjustified. The situation has raised concerns because of its direct impact on academic performance and graduation prospects.
Working-class students, in particular, stated they were among the most affected groups. They argued that the evaluation system allegedly imposed excessive academic burdens and could potentially lead to high failure rates in the course.
Students additionally highlighted concerns regarding the lecturer’s punctuality and discipline. The lecturer was alleged to have frequently arrived late for classes, disrupting the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process.
In response to these issues, students urged the leadership of Tarumanagara University, particularly the rectorate, to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the lecturer concerned.
They argued that the alleged teaching conduct and classroom practices could negatively affect the institution’s reputation and run counter to the principles of quality higher education.
“We urge the rectorate to intervene and thoroughly evaluate the lecturer in order to maintain the quality of education and ensure a healthy learning environment for students,” the students stated.
As of the publication of this report, no official statement had been issued by Tarumanagara University or by the lecturer mentioned in the students’ allegations.
This report will be updated should the university or related parties provide official clarification or responses.
